The draft text of the United Nations’ proposed global climate agreement was released Friday, February 13 in Geneva, Switzerland. The document, which proposes to impose draconian controls on all human activity and all energy production and consumption, has ballooned from the 38-page document that was negotiated last November-December at the UN climate circus in Lima, Peru, to 98 pages.
“Although it has become longer, countries are now fully aware of each other’s positions,” said Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), acknowledging that the more than doubling of the text’s length would make the next negotiating session “a little bit more difficult.”
Precisely how many devils are in the details of this long-awaited document is anybody’s guess, at this point. However, one thing is absolutely certain: Over the coming months, the global warming alarm choir will crank up the volume, repetition, and the shrillness of its claims, insisting that the United States must sign onto the agreement — at the UN’s global climate conference in Paris in November-December of this year — to avert causing “the end of the world as we know it.”
As we reported here in August of last year (“Desperate Dash of Global Warming”), the upcoming conference in Paris is the culmination of more than two decades of very intensive (and very expensive) propagandizing and fear mongering aimed at convincing the people of the world (but especially Americans) that we must all submit to drastic global controls, or face catastrophic consequences from runaway anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming, or AGW.
President Obama, of course, is completely on board the AGW alarmist bandwagon, having signed a climate deal in Beijing last November with Chinese Communist dictator Xi Jinping.
The Obama-Jinping deal, in essence, proposes economic suicide for the United States, mandating that Americans slash carbon dioxide emissions by 26-28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025. For its part, the Communist Chinese regime — which is the world’s biggest emitter of CO2, emitting more than the United States and Canada combined — gets a free ride, essentially, burning fossils fuels to its heart’s content, for the next 15 years. Then, in 2030, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) promises to try its best to stop increasing its CO2 production. Just so no one misses the point: Obama pledged that the United States would cut back our CO2 emissions more than 25 percent below what they were 10 years ago; the PRC said it “intends” to stop increasing its emissions — but not until 15 years from now.
This, of course, would add dramatically to the cost of doing business in the United States, which will force more American businesses to off-shore their operations to survive. And where will they go? Naturally, many will go to China, where, thanks to the Obama-Jinping deal, not only will it be much cheaper to make their products, but they won’t be hassled by environmental regulators.
Although he has no constitutional authority whatsoever to commit the United States to any such program, President Obama has repeatedly stated that he will ignore Congress and simply rule unconstitutionally by executive decree. And he has done so, repeatedly, demonstrating that he can flaunt the rule of law as well as Jinping and any other despot among the gaggle of tyrants and megalomaniacs that dominate the dictator’s club known as the United Nations.
“Climate Justice” and Climate Fraud
The Guardian, Britain’s ultra-leftwing daily newspaper (and a hardcore AGW alarmist organ), reported that the newly released Geneva text represented an advance for “climate justice,” a term used by enviro-Marxists to demand massive transfers of wealth from the taxpayers of the developed nations to the corrupt governments of the less-developed nations, for the supposed damages inflicted by global warming. But the activists have gone further, demanding the establishment of global regulatory and judicial institutions to enforce their proposed climate regime.
“Activists said it was positive that all views were present in the draft text, even ideas such as a Bolivian demand for an International Climate Justice Tribunal for countries that fail to keep pledges for action,” reported the Guardian. The “Bolivian demand” referred to is the brainchild of Bolivia’s radical Marxist president Evo Morales.
The Guardian continued:
“Everything in Geneva has set us up for success at Paris,” said Julie-Anne Richards of the Climate Justice Programme. She said Geneva contrasted with many UN sessions that can “feel like pulling teeth … painful and hard to get things done”.
Then, to emphasize the alleged importance for all peoples to work for “success at Paris,” The Guardian, like most other warmist media organs, reiterated the lie that 2014 was warmest year on record.
“Last year was the warmest on record and the UN panel of climate scientists says man-made climate change is already visible in more heat extremes, downpours and rising sea levels as ice melts from the Alps to the Andes,” the paper declared.
As The New American has reported many times previously, contrary to the ongoing governmental and media bombast, the satellite temperature records show that there has been no measurable global warming for more than 18 years! (See here and here.)
This fact that the planet has not been warming now for nearly two decades has been grudgingly acknowledged by even many of the top AGW alarmist individuals and institutions, which is why they switched from “global warming” to “climate change” a few years ago.
And even NASA’s own data refutes the claim that 2014 was the warmest on record. (See here, here, and here.)
Moreover, not only have all of the AGW alarmist computer models failed spectacularly and repeatedly, but the alarmists have been caught red-handed once again engaging in wholesale fraud fraud, blatantly tampering with the temperature data, in order to be able to falsely claim that the planet is warming. This is criminal activity on a massive scale by taxpayer-supported government employee-activists, with huge consequences for every person on earth. Congress, which has voted the funds for these agencies (NASA and NOAA, for instance), must be held responsible to subpoena the agency officials and records and to see to it that the culpable individuals are fired and prosecuted for their egregious criminal conduct.
Real Goal: “Complete Transformation” of the World
For those who have been following the ongoing antics of the UN climate agitators, it is clear that the real objective is to use the manufactured panic over “climate change” and “climate disruption” to stampede support for complete economic and political “transformation.”
We need not speculate on this matter because the UN’s climate panjandrumess Christiana Figueres, has repeatedly, explicitly stated this.
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the industrial revolution,” Figueres asserted, at a February 3rd press conference during the Geneva climate talks. “That will not happen overnight and it will not happen at a single conference on climate change,” she continued. “It is a process, because of the depth of the transformation.”
As we noted during the 2012 UN climate confab in Doha, Qatar, when Figueres made almost identical statements, the “transformation” she is so ardently advocating is a centrally planned totalitarian one.
“What we are doing here is we are inspiring government, private sector, and civil society to [make] the biggest transformation that they have ever undertaken,” declared Figueres. “The Industrial Revolution was also a transformation, but it wasn’t a guided transformation from a centralized policy perspective. This is a centralized transformation that is taking place because governments have decided that they need to listen to science. So it’s a very, very different transformation and one that is going to make the life of everyone on the planet very different.”
And we noted at the time, the plan of the UN alarmists to regulate man-made CO2 — which is not a pollutant, and in fact is a beneficial, essential gas for life on earth, and has almost negligible effect on global temperatures — offers one of the most frightening potentials for tyranny ever imagined. We wrote:
The “centralized transformation” Figueres so earnestly advocates would indeed “make the life of everyone on the planet very different.” It would also take central planning far beyond the realms already practiced during the most totalitarian epochs of Communist dictators Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin. Mao and Stalin in their wildest dreams could not have imagined a global regime for measuring CO2 and regulating every breath, every cooking fire, every watt of electricity, virtually every activity, of every person on earth.
Each step on the march toward the UN’s Paris climate summit is sure to reveal the despotic nature of the globalist agenda in ever starker and darker terms. And each step should provide added impetus for Americans to contact their representatives and senators to demand opposition to the Paris agreement, as well as an end to the transfer of our tax dollars to support the subversive operations of the United Nations.
