According to the Washington Post event organizer Hassen Abdellah said, "Most of the time, when Muslims go to Washington, D.C., they go there to protest some type of event.... This is not a protest. Never has the Islamic community prayed on Capitol Hill for the soul of America. We're Americans. We need to change the face of Islam so people don't feel every Muslim believes America is 'the great Satan,' because we love America." Abdellah says that the inspiration for this Muslim prayer event was Barack Obama's inaugural address in which the new president proclaimed: "To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect." Abdellah said Obama spoke about "Islam and Muslims not in an adversarial sense, but in the sense of being welcome and acknowledging we are integral citizens in the society." His New Jersey Mosque, Dar-ul-Islam, applied for a permit for the event from the Capitol Hill police and was granted access on July 28. The gathering is set for 1 p.m. on September 25. Abdellah says he is expecting 50,000 people from across the country to attend. The event website, islamoncapitolhill.com, offers five sponsorship levels ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 and also claims that more than 500 buses have been reserved to transport participants to Washington. The day's program includes Jummah (Friday congregational) prayer and readings from the Koran. Abdellah, a New Jersey attorney, emphasizes that this is to be a peaceful demonstration. Political demonstrations and signs will not be allowed. "We want this to be purely about Islam. We want to change the perception of Islam to show we are not terrorists, but that most of us Muslims here love America and abide by its laws." He was likely not referring to two of his clients convicted on terrorist charges in 2004 and 2007. In the latter case, Mahmud Faruq Brent, pled guilty to attending a jihad terrorist training camp in Pakistan. The former case involved Numan Maflahi, who was sentenced to five years in prison for lying to investigators about terrorism financing efforts. OneNewsNow reports that Gary Bauer, chairman of the non-profit organization American Values, has expressed concern over the event. He hopes organizers will "denounce Islamic fascism — the kind of extremism and regular violence we see around the world." Bauer pointed out that, though President Obama decided not to hold the annual National Day of Prayer at the White House, he did host a White House dinner honoring the Muslim holiday of Ramadam Kareem. He said he will be interested to see how Obama reacts to this gathering. "Most of us remember President Obama refused to do an event at the White House to mark the National Day of Prayer, which was deeply disappointing and certainly put him in a category by himself," he said, remarking that mainstream media coverage for the Muslim day of prayer has been generally favorable, while Christian events normally don't receive similar treatment. ... I welcome true prayer and yet this seems like a slap in the face...our own president declined to participate in our nation's National Day of Prayer...now we have this day for Islamic gathering. I can just see the mainstream media now falling all over themselves to fully and positively cover this gathering on Pennysylvania Ave. when just a couple of weeks ago they managed to ignore, dismiss, or paint in negative terms the 1.7 million of Americans who marched on 9/12! Crazed religious zealots! Radical right-wingers! Racists all! Labels we were given by our media.....I predict that coverage of this Muslim gathering will bring only glowing remarks from the media. America is land of the free...everyone on this earth is entitled to believe what they want and pray if they want. Our President may be too bias and close-mided but that does not mean we all should follow. Presdent Obama decided not to hold the National Day of Prayer, for Christians, at the White House, which is bias. He decided to allow the Islamic Day of Prayer, ok...so what? Any one of you can protest, speak, or pray where ever you want according to our Consitution yet you don't want to give that right to people who believe in Islam just because you decided to lump EVERY Muslim into one big evil category. The Bible has questionable scripture and symbolism in it as well, and so does the Book of Mormon. That does not mean that every Muslim follows every piece of scripture in the Quran to the letter. Nothing in this world is Black or White, there is always a Gray area. Judge not lest ye be judged and let the first without sin cast the first stone. Leave the judgement to the higher powers. |

Muslims show their support of America The Muslim day of prayer was today. It was forecast that 50,000 Muslims would come together to pray and show their support of America. About 1000 showed up. The media said the low turnout was due to Muslims being intimidated. Muslims? Intimidated? You're kidding, right? |

... First of all the President is wrong in his statement about Christianity. America does consider ourselves a Christian nation. And we are proud of it. We were founded by lordship of christianity. I am shocked that he would allow and support Islam and let them pray to there God which is not our God on Holy Ground. This is ludirious. It is like supporting terrorism. Why can't we impeach him when we as a nation can clearly see he can not run our country and every time you turn on the news he and the first lady is gallavanting all over the world in AirForce One. Remember too Airforceone and the white house belong to the people. America if you don't do something now to stop him it will get only worse. Who knows maybe he is the Anti Christ.I do and will not support praying on our white house lawn to a god that don't exist. I feel like there is something sneaky about him.
