President George Bush was on the defensive at the North American Leaders Summit held in New Orleans earlier this week. Recent negative comments about the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) have been issued by the presidential candidates as well as opponents of plans to create a North American Union. “The summit as presented to the press and to the public was largely a PR campaign for NAFTA,” said John McManus, publisher of The New American, who attended the two-day event. During their statements, each of the North American leaders touted NAFTA as a plus for their country’s economy.
