Contrary to popular belief, The Last Song starring Miley Cyrus, an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel, is not your typical “teeny-bopper” love story. In fact, it is a heart-breaking tale about an estranged father-daughter relationship that is propelled into reconciliation when said daughter must spend her summer with her father, only to discover devastating news. For this reason, this film is not only recommended for teens and young adults, but for all women who consider themselves “daddy’s girl.”

“I’ll be famous one day, but for now I’m stuck in middle school with a bunch of morons.” Greg Heffley’s perception of middle school was less than optimistic — in fact, he thought it was the dumbest idea ever invented. What middle schooler wouldn’t agree? That’s why Diary of a Wimpy Kid proved to be a popular book series and now a hit movie to boot!

The Hollywood Kodak Theatre rolled out the red carpet for the star-studded 82nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday night. Celebrities from all over the world dressed to impress and made their way down the red carpet, stopping for photo opportunities along the way, of course. Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin co-hosted the show and just as expected, it was an evening to remember.

Nicholas Sparks’ 2006 novel Dear John came to life on the big screen February 5, drawing throngs of females to the theaters. Despite the film’s overwhelming appeal to the young female audience, Dear John embodies the elements necessary to potentially capture the attention of all moviegoers: war, loyalty, passion, and of course, love. Unfortunately, screenplay writer Jamie Linden and director Lasse Hallström are inept at adapting Sparks’ wonderful novel to the movie screen.

Leading economist and writer Thomas Sowell has a talent for simplifying difficult concepts and applying common sense when analyzing the issues plaguing America today. Nothing exemplifies this talent more than Sowell’s newest work, Dismantling America, a book comprised of over 100 of Sowell’s syndicated newspaper columns written on an array of subjects from financial bailouts to illegal immigration.

Authors Cory Emberson and Rick Lindstrom believe that Americans have taken their freedoms for granted. When President Obama announced that energy giant British Petroleum would fund a $20 billion fund to compensate the victims of the British Petroleum oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, many warned of the potential for abuse. Regardless, the Obama administration kowtowed to the demands of George Soros’ Center for American Progress and demanded that BP set up the escrow account. Now, just one year after the compensation fund was created, investigations reveal that the funds from the account have been used for purchases unrelated to the oil spill.

Union spokesmen for government workers have expressed fears that Governor Scott Walker’s actions in Wisconsin would result in a domino effect of union-restricting legislation across the nation. As it turns out, these fears may not be unfounded, as Idaho state legislators have now passed a bill similar to that favored by Walker in Wisconsin. However, many voters and taxpayers disagree with union officials that reducing the power of government employee unions is a bad thing.
