One of America’s own generals, recently retired Major-General Taguba even admitted to the London Daily Telegraph that “these pictures show torture, abuse, rape and every indecency.” If our own generals are confirming the nature of the photos, the denial is going to be pretty tough. That advice, it's now more than clear, is not the strategy President Obama is pursuing. Instead, the Obama administration is fueling endless headlines, speculation, and conspiracy theories about the photos. It’s hard to believe they think that Al Jazeera and the rest of the Arab press doesn’t know about the Telegraph story yet. (Hint: they do know.) So Obama is allowing the story to perpetuate, with fresh headlines every time a new witness chimes in and each gory new detail is revealed — day after day, week after week, month after month. Update (Sunday, May 31): The New American's May 29 analysis (above) of the White House and Pentagon's non-denial denials regarding rape photos appears to be vindicated by a May 30 Salon article (link here). The White House and Pentagon appear to be backing up to the fall-back position where they can claim they were talking about a different set of suppressed abuse photographs. In reply to Are Americans Not Christians? Many Christians find the war and the military actions in Iraq morally reprehensible. We want to indict Bush an Cheney etc for war crimes, crimes agains the constitution. If allowed to do these tortures, we could be next for being a dissident. We could be taken without a trial to a prison and tortured for being a political threat to the administration. So we better stop it now! I think that now you understand why there is such a movement in America to promote Christianity. It needs it now. We Christians who have served in the military also were challenged by the lack of morals and ethics of some of its leaders and members. When challenged, we remembered the apostles who said "we ought to obey God rather than men" and have the choice to commit sins or get heavenly rewards for obedience to God when tempted and tried.. This behavior brings no one to Christ, which is our goal. We are Ambassadors with a commission to help reconcile men to God. God is Love, Light and Jesus is the agemt of the plan of salvation. If I was a stranger to the gospel I dont think I would want to be a Christian if they were the ones going around torturing prisoners and raping. Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. We dont want people to be in bondage. |

For Iran Even if we are all Christians are leave iran alone, you would still want to convert, kill, or tax us. I for one will not be lectured to by someone whose worships a god who believes in marrying little children Releasing the photos wouldn't solve a thing. Yes Bush was an idiot, but are paying for his mistakes by having an uneducated electorate elect an even bigger knucklehead. Hold on, we are about to take a ride into real tyranny not the conspiracy theory crowd type. |

Come on... The non-denial denial looks suspicious because in the current political climate politicians know that they have to choose their words carefully. Why? Because there is a full-scale witch hunt going on...as evidenced by one of the commentors here who suggests that Bush and Cheney should be indicted for war crimes. Give it a rest. President Bush is a national hero. He made some tough decisions in the aftermath of 911 that like it or not have prevented any further attacks on this country. Were there abuses at Abu-watcha-macallit? Of course. We already knew that. Is Bush responsible? No way, Jose! If you get beat up on the playground by a bully, they don't hold the principal responsible. They hold the bully responsible. I don't feel sorry for any of the perverts that got busted for criminal conduct at the prison. They did it. They take full responsibility. Any more pictures that surface could only prove just how sick they are...and put Americans in harms way...again. |
