“Anti-violence” Piers Morgan’s Sole Defender: Violent Alec Baldwin

As we reported recently, if CNN’s decision to cancel Piers Morgan Live caused any tearful farewells, they appear to have been made only of tears of joy. Even though British tabloider Piers Morgan was clearly on the Left end of the political spectrum on all issues — abortion, homosexual “rights,” LGBT issues, ObamaCare, “hate crimes,” and, especially, gun confiscation — it was difficult to find any “progressives” shedding tears of sorrow over his departure. They seem to be universally relieved that he will not be tainting their causes from his former CNN platform.

The only defender of the besieged Morgan to be found is pal Alec Baldwin, who tweeted, “I want to say to @piersmorgan, I hope you are back on the air very soon, wherever that may be.” Piers responded: “Thanks Alec, ditto.” Baldwin, who is having his own troubles with media relations and anger management, recently penned a seven-page rant in New York Magazine and hinted that he may soon be departing New York City to take up residence again in Los Angeles.

The Baldwin-Morgan tweets are especially telling, since Morgan makes a point of accusing his opponents of hatred, bigotry, racism, intolerance, lack of compassion, and tendencies toward violence. His pal Baldwin is infamous for making hateful statements and for violently attacking photographers. In one of his most notorious rants, on Late Night With Conan O’Brian, Baldwin leapt from his chair and unloosed a vicious tirade that advocated (how seriously is open to question) stoning to death not only Republican Congressman Henry Hyde, but also his wife and children — his whole family. Baldwin was responding to Rep. Hyde’s role in the impeachment of one of Baldwin’s political idols, Bill Clinton. Here’s the transcript

Alec Baldwin: I was in Africa. I go to Africa. I mean ladies and gentlemen I am in Africa. For three months I am in the bush and I come back. I come back here and I come back to what? I mean what is happening right now as we speak? Right now the Judiciary Committee, the President has an approval rating of 68 percent. The President is very popular and things are going pretty good and they are voting to impeach the President. They voted on one article of impeachment already. And I come back from Africa to stained dresses and cigars and this and impeachment. I am thinking to myself in other countries they are laughing at us twenty four hours a day and I’m thinking to myself if we were in other countries, we would all right now, all of us together, [starts to shout] all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death! We would stone him to death! [crowd cheers] Wait! Shut up! Shut up! No shut up! I’m not finished. We would stone Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and we’d kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families. [stands up screaming] What is happening in this country? What is happening? UGHHH UGHHH!!!!

More recently, the volcanic actor erupted on New York Post reporter Tara Palmeri, reportedly grabbing her by the arm and telling her, “I want you to choke to death.”

But the monumentally hypocritical Morgan has his own Baldwin-style death threat to account for. Not that he himself made it, but it was made on his show last year by one of his liberal-left guests and was laughed at by Morgan fellow guests. And Morgan endorsed it.

The target of the Piers Morgan “death threat” was Alex Jones, whose radio and TV/internet media empire at Infowars.com is a favorite whipping boy of the liberal-left.

During Morgan’s January 8, 2012 program Buzz Bissinger, an anti-Second Amendment sportswriter and columnist for The Daily Beast, quipped to Morgan, “But what do you need a semi-automatic weapon for? The only reason I think you’d need it is, Piers, challenge Alex Jones to a boxing match, show up with a semi-automatic that you got legally and pop him.”

“I’d love to see that,” said Huffington Post’s Abby Huntsman, laughing, then added, “In uniform.”

Cheerily, “I’ll borrow my brother’s uniform,” Morgan responded. (See the episode here.)

Ha, ha; laughs all around. Now, most likely, Bissinger didn’t truly intend for Morgan to murder Alex Jones, who had appeared on the program the previous night, providing one of Morgan’s liveliest programs ever (watch here). But the blatant hypocrisy that it demonstrates is screamingly obvious. A Piers Morgan trademark is to badger and bully his adversarial “guests,” twisting their words, or not allowing them to speak. When, in exasperation, they roll their eyes or emit a mock laugh of disbelief at his ludicrous behavior, he pounces, superciliously demanding: “don’t laugh,” “don’t smirk,” “don’t smile.” And he then proceeds to accuse them of laughing at the tragic victims of Sandy Hook and other shootings, when he knows they are laughing at his tactics, because he has left them nothing else to do. It is a cheap and disingenuous ploy that he utilized repeatedly, while arrogating to himself the mantle of the caring, compassionate advocate. And here are Piers and his company of compassionate “liberals” chortling riotously over jokes about murdering their opposition.

Paul Joseph Watson aptly noted, in a report on the incident he wrote for Jones’ InfoWars website:

Morgan, who has built his gun control argument on the justification of reducing violence in America, called Jones’ aggressive on-air defense of the right to bear arms “undignified” and “unedifying,” yet just 24 hours later he was laughing and joking about gunning down Jones with a semi-automatic weapon.

“After Piers Morgan and guests joked about murdering Alex Jones during the CNN host’s show on Tuesday night,” noted Watson, “Twitter users took to the social network to share Morgan’s death wish.”

Watson then reproduced seven tweets about the program that fully endorsed murdering Alex Jones. Among the printable ones were these:

• “I hope Alex Jones gets taken by terrorists who shoot his arms and legs off starting at the fingers and toes and work their way up.”

• “For the first time I see a good reason for guns in the USA — Alex Jones!! Someone please shoot this muppet.”

• “I wish somebody would shoot this Alex Jones Guy in the face.”

Did Morgan apologize for the “undignified” and “unedifying” jokes, remarks, and laughs associated with the program’s death wish for Alex Jones? Did he disavow the hateful Twitter remarks or rebuke the tweeters? Not at all; that’s not his style. Were Morgan, Buzz Bissinger, or Abby Huntsman upbraided by their colleagues at CNN, HuffPo, Daily Beast, and other MSM bastions of self-righteousness for “contributing to the climate of hate and incivility” — or some such similar refrain that we hear anytime the slightest remark or joke by a conservative may be interpreted as coarse, insensitive, or threatening? We have found no such reprimands from the ever-active MSM sensitivity police for the offenses of Morgan and his crew.

But for the ultimate hypocrisy, before he launched into the “kill Alex” segment with his in-studio guests, Piers brought on, via remote feed, Mark Potok, of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the malicious “hate” factory that has grown fabulously wealthy marketing vicious smear propaganda aimed at criminalizing other Americans with whom they disagree. (View Potok segment here.)

Did Piers Morgan, who falsely prides himself on asking the tough questions, ask Mark Potok about the SPLC’s role in inspiring homosexual activist Floyd Lee Corkins to launch his terrorist attack on the Family Research Council’s Washington, D.C. headquarters? Of course not. Did Morgan ask Potok about Corkins’ admissions during his trial that he used the SPLC’s website and its notoriously slanderous “Hate Map” designating the FRC a “hate group” to pick it out as a target? You guessed it; not a word.

According to the Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard, Corkins, who pleaded guilty to terrorism charges, said in court that he hoped to “kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-fil-A sandwiches in victims’ faces, and kill the guard.” As Bedard explained, “the shooting occurred after an executive with Chick-fil-A announced his support for traditional marriage, angering same-sex marriage proponents.”

Thankfully, the FRC’s security guard, Leo Johnson, was able to subdue Corkins, although Johnson was wounded in the process. Corkins was sentenced to a 25-year prison term in 2013.

Of course, if a tea partier, a pro-life activist, an NRA member, or anyone else who could remotely be described as conservative had carried out a similar attack on a liberal-left group, the attack would undoubtedly have provided an unending fodder for MSM outrage toward, and condemnation of, everyone to the right of Fidel Castro. Witness the media firestorm over Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson’s comments concerning sexual perversion.

Piers Morgan joined in the attempted slaughter with a vengeance, tweeting that Robertson is a “vile bigot” and intimated that Robinson should not have the right to free speech. Here’s Morgan’s tweet:

Just as the 2nd Amendment shouldn’t protect assault rifle devotees, so the 1st Amendment shouldn’t protect vile bigots.#PhilRobertson

In a later tweet, Morgan called Robertson a “racist bigot,” though he offered no evidence to justify the vicious label.

Morgan, as his conduct repeatedly shows, is completely comfortable employing the vile tactics of the SPLC, whose staff and leaders are the acknowledged masters of assassination by smear and defamation. Mark Potok, the chief of the SPLC’s “hate police,” has directed vilification campaigns against virtually every significant conservative, Christian, pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage, pro-Constitution, pro-gun rights group in America. As we reported previously:

Among the many leaders and groups that have been singled out for SPLC smears are Dr. James Dobson and his Focus on the Family ministry, Beverly LaHaye and her Concerned Women for America, the late D. James Kennedy and his Coral Ridge Ministries, Scott Lively and his Abiding Truth Ministries, David Barton and his WallBuilders ministry, the American Family Association, the Family Research Council, the Chalcedon Foundation, Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, the late Jerry Falwell’s Liberty Council, the Traditional Values Coalition, Catholic Family News, the Christian Action Network, and the National Organization for Marriage.

These and other similar groups are routinely pilloried as purveyors of “hate,” even though no proof is offered that they promote or incite hatred toward homosexuals. Indeed, most of the groups cited explicitly state that they love homosexuals as individuals and pray for their conversion and healing, as they do for all souls trapped in what the Christian faith defines as sinful practices. Nevertheless, simply opposing homosexuality and the legalization of homosexual practices is sufficient to place these “intolerant” Christians on the SPLC’s “Hate Map” and put them in the organization’s so-called “Intelligence Report” — sandwiched between photos of hooded Klansmen burning crosses and goose-stepping neo-Nazis.

And if a homosexual somewhere is bullied, beaten, or killed, then you know who is responsible. Most Christian leaders realize that the SPLC’s demonizing campaign is intended as the softening-up prelude to pushing for prosecution of pastors and preachers (and teachers, professors, talk-show hosts, journalists, and employers — as well as ordinary citizens) for “homophobia,” under current and future “hate crime” legislation.

Thanks to Piers Morgan and others of his ilk in the MSM choir, everyone has heard of Phil Robertson and his “controversial” (or as Morgan put it, “vile”) comments, but almost no one has heard of homosexual terrorist and would-be mass murderer (and SPLC disciple) Floyd Lee Corkins.

But Americans can be thankful. At least Piers Morgan will no longer have his CNN soapbox from which to broadcast his intolerant, anti-liberty, anti-Constitution, anti-Christian rants.
