A mere three weeks after Glenn Beck’s successful “Restoring Honor" rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., hundreds of thousands more people are expected to come together at the National Mall for a four-day event. From Thursday September 9 through Sunday September 12, Americans will take part in “Unite in Action,” a march on D.C. designed to bring together “conservative grassroots patriots” for the purpose of “unifying constitutional patriots to preserve liberty and the [c]onstitutional principles upon which this nation was founded.”
“Unite in Action” boasts a variety of events, including a Liberty XPO and Symposium, which is “a national gathering connecting like-minded individuals, promoting public discussion, and providing support through a series of presentations on everything from how to build a community group to how to impact elections.”
Similarly, a Young Patriots Symposium, to encourage socialization of like-minded young conservatives, will feature guests from leading organizations like the Mackinac Center, ROAR into Action Leadership Institute, Campus Majority, and Act for America.
In addition to the Liberty and Young Patriots XPOs, there will be a Constitution Seminar presented by the National Center for Constitutional Studies. The John Birch Society’s President John F. McManus will be speaking at 11 a.m. on September 9. His topic will in include discussion of the U.S. Constitution on money, the Federal Reserve, and the current recession plaguing our nation. As touted on the website, the seminar is “not one of those boring classes you sat through in high school or the endless drudgery they teach in law school,” but is instead an exciting, interactive, and inspirational story about the creation of the greatest legal document ever written.
An assortment of additional events is scheduled, including a Religious Leaders Roundtable, a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, banquets, concerts and much more.
Perhaps the two largest of of all the four-day events, however, are Saturday’s March on D.C. rally and Sunday’s Freedom Works Rally.
Last year’s March on D.C. rally drew 1.2 million guests, inspiring hope in this year’s coordinators for a similar turnout. Saturday’s rally will begin at 11:00 a.m., when the crowd assembles near the National Gallery of Art. The throng will march down Constitution Avenue toward the National Mall, stopping? at the Washington Monument, where the rally will begin. According to the website, the march is “not a protest against our government. It is a rally FOR America!” Like Beck’s "Restoring Honor" rally, the March on D.C. is not about politics, but instead is intended to focus on the importance of defending liberty, and returning to God and to the ideals of the Founding Fathers. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs displaying messages of “hope, pride, and gratitude.”
Speakers at the March on D.C. range from former Vice Presidential candidate Ruth White and author Larry Schweikart to President of the 9/12 Project Yvonne Donnelly and conservative former presidential candidate Alan Keyes. Guests will also be regaled with performances by Jordan Paige, Austin Hicks, Ava Aston, and many more talented artists.
Sunday’s rally will be hosted by a number of organizations, including FreedomWorks, the Institute for Liberty, and the Tea Party Patriots. After a non-denominational prayer service at 10:00 a.m. at the Washington Memorial, guests will gather at Freedom Plaza at noon to begin their march up Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol, where the rally will begin at 2:00 p.m. Intended to reaffirm the core values of the Tea Party movement — repeal, reduce, restore — Sunday’s political rally is meant to enforce one message: Take America Back!
Speakers at the 9/12 rally include former U.S. Rep. Dick Armey, Chairman of FreedomWorks, Indiana Representative Mike Pence, Ana Puig of Kitchen Table Patriots, Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks, Erick Erickson of RedState.com, and many more.
