The reluctance of Democrats, including the party’s presumptive presidential candidate Joe Biden, to criticize the Black Lives Matter movement’s violence is fueling Trump’s “silent majority.” So says Mark Smith, owner of the Da Vinci Group, a heavyweight government relations and public-affairs firm in Washington, D.C. He sports an 83-percent success record in fundraising for successful congressional campaigns over the past 10 years.
Smith appeared on Breitbart News Daily on Monday and told host Alex Marlow, “I will argue very strongly that that silent majority, on a day-to-day basis, thanks to the folks at Black Lives Matter … are making more and more recruits [for the president].”
He added, “This President can bring us all together as Americans.… If he pivots back to the economy … and illustrates that he’s capable of moving in the right direction … I think he’ll have a very good day in November.”
David Catron, writing for the American Spectator, thought the same thing as far back as early June: “The ongoing riots in cities ‘governed’ by supine Democrats, combined with the genuine threat that the violence will metastasize outward to the suburbs, is [the average citizen’s] most conspicuous fear.” He referred to polling that showed clear majorities, regardless of party affiliation, supporting the president’s intention to deploy U.S. troops if state officials failed to contain the violence.
Democrat pollster Doug Schoen agrees: “The political risk to Democrats is becoming associated with the riots … which would result in the party losing the White House and risking their House majority.”
More evidence that there’s a growing “silent majority” of Trump supporters came from a recent poll by the Cato Institute, which revealed the reluctance of conservatives to express their political views for fear of being ostracized. Wrote Catron in another article at the American Spectator: “Many Democrats mistakenly believe this illusory dominance of the public debate means they have won the hearts and minds of the electorate.”
Instead, voters are just biding their time — keeping “their peace until it really matters — when they reach the voting booth.”
Kimberly Guilfoyle, the national chair of the Trump Victory Finance Committee, which hosted the recent successful fundraiser for Trump’s reelection campaign, is tapping into that “silent majority” and recruiting them as fundraisers. Since joining the Trump campaign in mid-January, she has expanded the number of official Trump campaign bundlers — those tasked with raising funds from their circle of influence — from around 800 to more than 6,500.
Said Guilfoyle: “America is firmly behind President Trump. We have the energy, the resources and the enthusiasm. The silent majority donors that support President Trump will ensure victory in November.”
Guilfoyle is going even further: She is recruiting members of Congress as bundlers for the president as well. At present they include 138 members of the House of Representative chaired by House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, 25 U.S. Senators chaired by Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and 71 statewide elected officials such as governors, lieutenant governors, and state attorneys general.
As digital director for the Trump campaign Gary Coby expressed it, “When people donate to a campaign, they become personally invested. And when they’re personally invested, they vote. We have an army of Silent Majority Donors who don’t engage with fake news pollsters, but you can bet they’ll show up for President Trump on November 3rd.”
