All Doped Up
Between 1996 and 2005, Reuters reports, the use of anti-depressants doubled to nearly 10 percent of the American population. In 1996, the figure was 13 million. Now, it's 27 million.
Sen. Graham Wants U.S. in Afghanistan Permanently
Liberal Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, known in conservative anti-immigration circles as Sen. Grahamnesty, says the United States must maintain a permanent “presence” in Afghanistan. He proposes this imperial outpost because he believes it will prevent the Taliban, the ruling political party in the graveyard of empires when Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida terrorists struck the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, from returning to the country. Taliban fighters, however, who operate from bases in Pakistan with covert Pakistani support, are still in Afghanistan.
No More War on Terror, White House Claims
The Obama administration has declared an end to the “war on terror,” which undoubtedly scares the neocons as much it warms the hearts of those opposed to the war from the beginning. But opponents of the war shouldn’t light up the peace pipes just yet. The declaration doesn't mean much of anything.
77 Million Muslims to Join European Union?
President Barack Obama ended his European jaunt with a message to Muslims everywhere: the United States is not at war with Islam. Fortifying that statement, the president, whose father and stepfather were Muslims, proclaimed that the European Union must admit Turkey as a member, which would be an absolute calamity for Europe — or what remains of it.
"Dearbornistan" Pays Christian Minister $100,000
A Christian pastor who tried to encourage Muslims to leave Islam will receive $100,000 in damages from Dearborn, Michigan, which tried to stop him from evangelizing at the city’s Arab-American Festival.
Dearbornistan, as it is known because of its Muslim population, tried to stop George Saieg from proselytizing among the festival’s Muslim attendees. He sued, as The New American reported in June, and eventually prevailed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. At the time, the court said Saieg was entitled to damages.
Canon Lawyer: Pelosi May Not Receive Communion
A noted Catholic canon lawyer has again called upon his church to bar former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from receiving Holy Communion.
Ed Peters, who blogs at “In Light of the Law,” reiterated his earlier legal opinion on Pelosi in light of her vociferous support for the Obama administration’s edict that Catholic employers must provide, with no co-pays, insurance coverage for contraceptives, including birth control pills and other abortifacients. Catholic teaching enjoins the faithful from using contraception to stymie pregnancy.
L.A Cathedral Hosts Geodesic ‘Nativity’ Scene
For those who haven’t gotten the news, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles has divulged that Jesus Christ was not fully God and fully man, but God and fully disc.
The cathedral, an architectural abomination author Michael Rose calls ugly as sin, is hosting a “nativity” scene manufactured by Bernardaud, a French porcelain company. Problem is, there’s no nativity at all. It’s a disc under a geodesic dome. The disc supposedly represents Jesus Christ.
Catholic Prelates Spend $26.6 Million Lobbying
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops spent nearly $30 million lobbying in Washington through 2008-09, according to a new report from the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.
Anti-Christian Film To Open at Brooklyn Museum
Having been pulled from an exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution, a film which features ants crawling on a crucifix and a man stitching his mouth together will go on display as part of a larger homosexual exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum in Brooklyn, New York.
NBC Ties Penn State Scandal to Catholic Church
It was inevitable the connection would be made. When Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky (pictured at left) was arrested on November 4, after years of allegedly molesting boys with the knowledge of superiors who didn’t stop him, everyone knew what was coming. It wouldn’t be long before the media brought up the Catholic Church and its tribulations with homosexual molesters.
