Citing Ebola, Obama Boosts UN and Sends Troops to Africa

Without congressional or constitutional authorization, this week Obama announced a plan to send 3,000 U.S. troops to West Africa, supposedly to help African governments deal with the deadly Ebola virus by imposing what amounts to medical martial law. Among other controversial activities, American forces will be working with the Liberian military to quarantine entire villages as police and troops put the entire nation of Sierra Leone on lock-down. Obama is also helping to boost the powers and capabilities of dictator-dominated international organizations under the guise of fighting the disease. As The New American predicted last month, Obama and the United Nations are indeed planning to fight Ebola with tyranny. Critics, though, are expressing outrage over the machinations even as senior administration officials struggle to explain it all.

As Obama unconstitutionally deploys war-fighting forces under the guise of “health,” the UN and its World Health Organization are playing a lead role in the controversial strategies. And despite the sordid track-record of the UN and the WHO — with its decision-making body currently under the leadership of the ruthless Communist Castro regime ruling Cuba — Obama is fully on board with their plans, too. He claimed Ebola “is a global threat” that “demands a truly global response,” which in globalist-speak means a response led by self-styled international “authorities.” The president also claimed the deadly virus was a top “national security” threat to the United States — even though the White House released a “Fact Sheet” again claiming “U.S. health professionals agree it is highly unlikely that we would experience an Ebola outbreak here in the United States.”

Still, despite the assurances that Ebola is unlikely to spread in America, the president and top officials have been busy hyping the danger to market Obama’s plan to the taxpaying public. “This is a daunting task,” Obama explained on Tuesday amid his announcement that U.S. troops would be deployed for the effort. “We know that if we take the proper steps, we can save lives. But we have to act fast.” Though the disease has been spreading for months, Obama suddenly decided to send 3,000 troops, reiterating over and over again that he must act immediately — presumably in an effort to justify the fact that he has no legitimate authority to order U.S. troops around the world without approval from Congress.

“We can’t dawdle on this one,” Obama continued. “We have to move with force and make sure that we are catching this as best we can, given that it has already broken out in ways that we have not seen before…. It’s spiraling out of control. If the outbreak is not stopped now, we could be looking at hundreds of thousands of people infected with profound political and economic and security implications for all of us.” The “epidemic,” he added, “is not just a threat to regional security; it’s a potential threat to global security.”

Among other tactics, Obama will be sending U.S. troops to help Liberian forces, which recently shot a boy during a protest (rumors are circulating among locals that claim Western governments and militaries are deliberately spreading the disease), to forcibly quarantine broad swaths of the population. “We’re going to be training the Liberian national police and the armed forces on how they can best support isolation operations and to provide security near hospitals, holding centers and treatment units,” Obama’s ambassador to Liberia, Deborah Malac, told reporters from Monrovia shortly before the president made his announcement. It remains unclear how much U.S. and UN military assistance will be provided in Sierra Leone, where troops and law enforcement are ordering everyone, at gunpoint, to stay indoors for at least three days.

Critics and military experts, however, promptly blasted Obama’s decision to deploy American troops to West Africa as a misuse of the U.S. military and more. Among those lashing out at the scheming: Retired Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, who served as deputy under-secretary of defense for intelligence under President George W. Bush. “The health mission in Liberia would be better accomplished by private-sector NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), including the French organization Médecins San Frontières, Doctors without Borders, among others, or by some other U.S. government agency such as the Department of Health and Human Services,” he was quoted as saying by WND, adding that using American military forces to contain Ebola is “an absolute misuse of the U.S. military.”

“I believe it is a total misuse of the U.S. military’s capabilities at a time when the U.S. military is taking drastic budget cuts, it is extraordinarily thin and it is being recommitted to conflict in Iraq. I object to this quite strongly,” Lt. Gen. Boykin continued. “The U.S. military does not have specific training regarding how to handle a medical emergency like Ebola…. It’s rather obvious there is a great risk the U.S. military going into Liberia to fight Ebola will end up getting infected themselves.” Of course, without Congress having declared a war in West Africa, the Constitution gives Obama no authority to deploy troops there, either. The WHO, though, has been loudly touting the alleged benefits and need for using military force amid the outbreak.

In addition to lawlessly and recklessly deploying U.S. military forces, Obama has also exploited the Ebola outbreak to further boost a wide array of despot-packed globalist outfits, ranging from the UN and the WHO to the African Union. “The Ebola epidemic reminds us that our global efforts to build the capacity to prevent, detect, and rapidly respond to infectious disease threats like Ebola have never been more vital,” the White House claimed in a statement. “In February, we came together with nations [governments] around the world to launch the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) as a five year effort to accelerate action.” Obama’s “global partners” in that scheme include the WHO; Russian strongman Vladimir Putin’s government; and various globalist-inspired “regional” regimes currently in the process of dismantling national sovereignty around the globe under myriad pretexts.

Meanwhile, instead of seeking permission from the American people’s elected representatives in Congress to deploy troops and further boost globalist organizations, the administration announced that it has other so-called partners in its Ebola efforts. “In order to contain and combat it, we are partnering with the United Nations and other international partners to help the Governments of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal respond just as we fortify our defenses at home,” the White House said in its “Fact Sheet,” without mentioning that numerous infected patients have been deliberately brought into the United States for reasons that remain unclear. (The U.S. border, of course, remains essentially wide open, despite the fact that dozens of illegal immigrants from the affected countries have been apprehended and many more have undoubtedly succeeded in entering illegally.)

Other Obama “partners” in the effort include European governments and various self-styled regional authorities. “We also are working intensively on this effort with the United Nations, including the World Health Organization, the governments of the affected countries, and other partners, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Norway, the Africa[n] Union, and European Union,” the White House said. Troops serving the African Union, of course, recently came under fire from human-rights groups for raping, murdering, and pillaging innocent civilians — a recurring problem with both AU troops and UN peacekeepers. Now, USAID and the U.S. State Department are hoping to shower millions more taxpayer dollars on the controversial African Union outfit, a globalist-backed “integration” regime composed largely of dictators and corrupt regimes oppressing and looting the populations they misrule.

Since Congress has not appropriated funds for Obama’s scheming, the executive branch has simply been spending taxpayer dollars originally allocated for other programs. In all, the administration claims to have spent around $100 million so far, in addition to already promising another $75 million through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Now, Obama is asking Congress for another $30 million, along with a separate $60 million for “development and manufacturing of Ebola therapeutic and vaccine candidates,” the White House said. Separately, the administration wants to “reprogram” half of a billion dollars from the Defense Department for Ebola-related military and humanitarian activities in West Africa. Numerous other, similar schemes are also underway.

As The New American has documented extensively, all of the totalitarian-style measures Obama is helping enforce in West Africa could eventually spread — even to the United States. Through a combination of unconstitutional statutes and so-called “executive orders,” the administration already purports to have the power to unilaterally quarantine anyone, including healthy Americans, as was on display amid the “swine flu” hysteria. The UN and the WHO, meanwhile, are usurping growing amounts of power. And with the Ebola outbreak, that trend is accelerating — despite the fact that private charities would be far more efficient and moral than governments or globalist outfits in combating diseases anyway. At the very least, Congress must restrain the Obama administration and ensure that it complies with the U.S. Constitution. So far, lawmakers have asked a few questions, but they have received little in the way of actual responses. As the American people’s elected representatives sworn to uphold the Constitution, they have a duty to ensure that the Supreme Law of the Land is respected.
