ObamaCare: "An Assault on Religious Freedom"

Confronting elements of President Obama’s healthcare legislation that are so restrictive of religious freedom that Jesus “would not qualify as ‘religious,’” the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has taken a stand against the law's implementation in its current form.

Archbishop Blasts Media Bias

The pervasive problem of political and religious bias in news reporting is often mocked by members of the media, but for those who have been the victims of such bias, the topic is no laughing matter.

"No Man Knows the Day or Hour"

SunThe uneventful, rapture-less day of May 21 brought down the curtain on the eschatology of Harold Camping in a fashion that calls to mind the conclusion of T.S. Eliot’s poem, The Hollow Men: “This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper.” Having proclaimed that “the Rapture” would transpire on May 21, dawn breaks on another day with the radio evangelist’s latest pronouncement regarding the End of the World having proven utterly false.

Physicist Hawking Mocks Religious Faith

Adam and GodEven as the news media reported on a study conducted by Oxford University which found that faith in God appears to be an innate trait for human beings, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking denounced all such faith, and proclaimed notions of “heaven or afterlife” as “a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”

According to a story by Brian Montopoli of CBS News, it would seem that America has little to fear from the brutality of Islamic Sharia law; no, the danger is posed by conservative constitutionalists who are concerned by the efforts of Muslims to impose their religion on the 99 percent of Americans who do not share their religion. Montopoli begins his scree with the declaration:

The ongoing controversy over the Shroud of Turin has taken an interesting new turn, with a researcher claiming to have found text concealed in the shroud that would place its origins in the first century A.D.

kidsAfter decades of helping to place children in foster homes, Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, announced on November 14 that it would be transferring all of its current cases to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Across the state, Catholic Charities and the Evangelical Child and Family Agency in Wheaton found that they would no longer be able to continue playing a role in placing children in foster care because the state government was going to require them to place children in the homes of same-sex couples — a practice that both Roman Catholics and Evangelicals believe to be contrary to their faith.

Bishops Form Council to Uphold Marriage

Facing criticism from a prominent leader of the Roman Catholic Church because of the President’s unwillingness to uphold federal laws defending traditional marriage, the Obama administration appears bent on supporting same-sex unions — while simply ignoring both law and public opinion.

As the Obama Administration continues the efforts of the radical Left to redefine terms such as “marriage” and “family” to the point where they have been emptied of their historic meaning, traditionalists are becoming increasingly vocal. New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan’s (left) September 26 talk — “The Ring Makes a Difference” — is one of the most prominent statements in opposition to such efforts at undermining the historic, traditional understanding of marriage. The archbishop denounced the effort to ‘redefine’ marriage, declaring the effort to promulgate the notion of “same-sex” marriage as an “ominous threat to religious liberty”.
