Thousands of Infants Sickened in China

Sanlu Milk PowderIn the wake of the tainted toothpaste and pet food scandals, thousands of infants have been sickened in China by contaminated powdered milk. So far, two infants have died from the product that has been contaminated with melamine, the same agent that was found to have contaminated pet food sold in the United States.

The court found, in a 5-4 vote, that local and state authorities could not effectively ban handgun ownership. The ruling prompted Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein to exclaim that she is "extremely dismayed" because as a result of the ruling "common sense state and local gun laws across the country now will be subject to federal lawsuits."

A giant black hole is putting on a spectacular show and scientists at NASA's Chandra X-ray observatory have captured the action. The black hole, located in galaxy M87, is blasting gas outwards, causing scientists to compare what they are seeing in deep space to the eruption of a volcano.

FCC Moves to Regulate the Internet

The Federal Communications Commission is set to begin a move to regulate the Internet.

According to British Petroleum, safety is always top priority. That's what BP Spokesman Robert Wine told CNN for a report on the Deepwater Horizon explosion for June 9. The statement echoed company policy officially described in the BP Code of Conduct, which states:  "BP's commitment to safety means each of us needs to be alert to safety risks as we go about our jobs.... Always ... Stop any work that becomes unsafe."
