The Arizona Shooting: The Left’s Prejudice and Hypocrisy on Display
Article audio sponsored by The John Birch Society

This is just what the Left has been waiting for. They will not, to use a variation on that infamous Rahm Emanuel line, “let a good tragedy go to waste” — especially when it has been so, so long in coming. When a bomb was planted in Times Square last year, Mayor Bloomberg, ever detached from reality, flaunted his prejudices and theorized that the perpetrator might be someone who “doesn’t like the healthcare bill.” Hey, it fit the leftist narrative and certainly was “newsworthy.” And imagine the disappointment when the culprit turned out to be — as 99-plus percent of the terrorists bedeviling us today are — an olive-complected Muslim jihadist. Then it was, “Hush, hush, child. Nothing to see here. Move along.” It’s the quickest way to get a story off the front page.

And so it was with the Fort Hood shooter, the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle gunman and the Little Rock recruitment center murderer. But the Loughner case is different, and it again underlines the prejudice and hypocrisy of the Left. For its minions have gone media-viral with it for one reason and one reason only: Loughner shares the skin color of a disproportionate percentage of Tea Party members and constitutionalists. Thus, he can be used to tarnish them. It makes about as much sense as laying the blame for a violent act perpetrated by an Arab Christian at the feet of Arab Muslims. But, hey, why not? Ethnically they’re the same.

Except this is even more ridiculous. I could point out that a former classmate of Loughner’s describes him as a “left wing” “political radical” and “pot head” and that he listed The Communist Manifesto along with Mein Kampf (sorry, professor, but before and during WWII the Nazis were viewed as what they were: left-wing radicals) as favorite works.

Then, many have heard about the bizarre YouTube video in which Loughner expressed his “final thoughts.” What few seem to have noticed, however, is that he apparently posted the video to DemocraticUnderground.com (DU) [ITALICS:] before featuring it on YouTube. I say this because under the YouTube (YT) version it states, “As Seen On: DemocraticUnderground.com,” indicating that its presence there predated its YT appearance. Interestingly, though, it seems the DU has tried to obscure this, having edited the video posting so as to alter the posting date to January 8. Here is what it states under the video at DU (as of approximately 5 PM, January 9):

However, at the top of the DU posting it states, “Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 04:20 PM by demwing [emphasis added],” again indicating that it was posted earlier. Let’s see if the “edited” notation remains or is scrubbed sometime soon.

Yet to understand how even this misses the point, you have to watch Loughner’s video, a testimonial to a twisted mind if ever there were one. Now, while I’ve had some exposure to mental illness (someone I know was diagnosed with so-called “bi-polar disorder”), such experience isn’t necessary to discern that Loughner is clinically insane. His rambling is so deep in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest territory that he couldn’t even get a job at the New York Times.

Despite this, the Left is busily implicating the right in the Giffords shooting. Pima County, Arizona, Sheriff Clarence Dupnik wasted no time blaming talk radio and cable news, a sentiment echoed later by former secretary of defense William Cohen. American Thinker posted on Saturday that “a president of a community college and friend of Giffords [sic] just blamed ‘the right’ on CNN for creating a climate of hate in the state.” And saying bluntly what the New York Times had earlier only implied, N.Y. Daily News columnist Michael Daly penned the headline, “Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ blood is on Sarah Palin’s hands after putting cross hair over district.”

Given this, it’s not surprising that the leftist British publication the Guardian just published a piece entitled “Gabrielle Giffords shooting reignites row over rightwing rhetoric in US.” Except they have it wrong: It’s not the shooting that sparked the row but a media so deceitful that they will paint a Communist Manifesto-reading, pot-smoking, clinically-insane, left-leaning man as a right-wing terrorist.

And how shameless are these deceivers? Well, Politico cites an anonymous “veteran Democratic operative” who says, “They need to deftly pin this [the shooting] on the tea partiers…. Just like the Clinton White House deftly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on the militia and anti-government people.”

Now, aside from being beneath contempt, what does it mean when you’re willing to go to such lengths to manufacture a right-wing terrorist?

Answer: A real one is awfully hard to find.

Yet we can’t say the same about left-wing terrorists. In fact, specializing in projection, you can bet that whatever liberals accuse opponents of, they’re guilty of themselves.

Just consider “racism.” While Georgia Congressman John Lewis accused Tea Partiers of shouting a racial epithet at him but could provide no evidence in this cellphone-camera age, leftist protesters actually did hurl the word “n****r” at blacks in the wake of the Proposition 8 vote. Next, from the truth-stranger-than-fiction file, there is the outrageous liberal proposal to punish schoolchildren based on racial quota. Then, need I remind anyone of how Barack Obama’s Department of Justice refuses to pursue voting-rights violations when the victims are white?

And what about hatred and viciousness? First there’s Christopher Hitchens, who, almost while the late Rev. Jerry Falwell’s body was still warm, said, “I think it’s a pity there isn’t a hell for him [Falwell] to go to.” Then there’s Julianne Malveaux, who hoped that Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife would feed him a high-fat diet so he would die of a heart attack. Nice people.

As for violence and destructive protests, they are almost exclusively a leftist province. Just consider the recent riots in Greece and France, Bill Ayers’ Weathermen bombings or the frequent acts of ecoterrorism. Consider the beating of a black man by SEIU thugs at a 2009 town-hall event. Or consider the NYC sanitation union, which apparently orchestrated a work slowdown during the recent blizzard and caused lives to be lost. Of course, we shouldn’t forget the 100 million innocents claimed by communist governments during the 20th century. But, hey, none of this is leftists’ fault. People just have a bad habit of dropping dead around them.

As for the matter at hand, the hypocrisy in the Loughner reportage is staggering. While Sheriff Dupnik has piously warned that free speech has consequences, he’s a man who indulged demagoguery in calling the Arizona immigration law “racist,” disgusting” and “stupid.” Then there is Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas, who joined the chorus of those criticizing Sarah Palin for targeting Giffords and other politicians with crosshairs imagery; he tweeted yesterday, “Mission accomplished, Sarah Palin.” But here’s the kicker: His own site targeted Giffords with like imagery — a bull’s-eye on her district. In fact, the Kos had also published a post from a Tucson contributor who scored Giffords and wrote that she is “now DEAD to me!” Not surprisingly, Moulitsas pulled a Joseph Stalin and scrubbed that posting from his site — after the shooting.

Now, of course, it’s ridiculous to entertain the notion that hyperbole and colorful symbolism must be stricken from political discourse in a futile quest for safety. But if we accept the fanciful, that Jared Lee Loughner was driven to kill by gunplay imagery, what would have been more likely to thus influence this man of the Left: Its use by a woman of the Right or a site of the Left such the Daily Kos?

But none of this will matter to the Left. With the motto “whatever works for me,” they specialize in the Big Lie and can’t be reasoned with any more than Loughner. As for words having consequences, Sheriff Dupnik is right about that. I just wonder when the Left will suffer the consequences it well deserves for its shameful, despicable lies and deceit.
