There’s a wonderful German word, “schadenfreude,” which translates roughly as “taking pleasure in the misfortune of others.” Normally that would be a pretty petty thing to feel. But I’ve got to admit, I’ve been enjoying a lot of schadenfreude lately, as I witness the problems the Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has created for itself.
Following the OPEC Summit in November of 2007, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shook things up when he said the U.S. dollar was “a worthless piece of paper.” He had expressed concern over the dollar’s decreasing value and wondered aloud if the global marketplace should use another currency in the trading of oil. At the time, the world scoffed at the concept and looked at Ahmadinejad as a mad man.
I thought we were supposed to think that Sarah Palin was nuts for bringing up "death panels." Now a few weeks later the cover of Newsweek has a giant plug on unplugging the elderly, accompanied by a super-sized headline: "The Case for Killing Granny: Curbing Excessive End-Of-Life Care Is Good for America." The article is by Evan Thomas, a Newsweek editor-at-large.
The United Nations’ evil doesn’t end with providing dictators like Moammar Gadhafi and Barack Obama a glittery platform at exorbitant expense. Nor does it exhaust its wickedness when it sticks its noxious nose into the world’s business. It also turns New York into an occupied city during the fortnight its General Assembly meets on Manhattan’s East Side.
According to my dictionary, a gangster is a member of a gang of criminals. Criminals, of course, are guilty of crimes. A crime is an act committed in violation of a law prohibiting it, or omitted in violation of a law ordering it.
Is the new Obama government in Washington giving us Socialism, Communism, or Fascism? Communist Russia called itself the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, better known as the USSR. Communist East Germany called itself the German Democratic Republic. Hitler’s Germany was ruled by National Socialists, better known as Nazis. Dictator Mussolini’s Italy was ruled by Fascists. So obviously you cannot tell the nature of a government by the name it gives itself.
On the morning after the huge 9/12 tea party march on Washington, there wasn’t much surprise in the lobby of our D.C. hotel about the coverage in the New York Times about the previous day’s event, a massive rally that Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, the third-ranking Republican leader in the House of Representatives, described as “the largest gathering of conservatives in American history.”
It isn’t easy to upstage the President of the United States when he’s delivering a speech to a joint session of Congress. But Rep. Joe Wilson managed the feat 12 days ago, when he blurted out, “You lie!” during President Barack Obama’s pitch for his healthcare proposals.
You can't grasp the full craziness of Van Jones, Obama's now-resigned "green jobs czar" (actual job title: "Special Advisor on Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation for the White House Council on Environmental Quality") unless you watch his speeches on YouTube.
