Democrat Prosecutors Pursue Climate Skeptics

The ghost of Stalinist “science” is back with Lysenkoism 2.0. When top climate experts such as MIT’s Richard Lindzen and former NASA climatologist Roy Spencer ridiculed the alarmist movement as the “climate cult” and “global warming Nazis,” they were a lot closer to the mark than even they probably realized. Instead of explaining why the satellite and weather balloon temperature record shows that there has been no warming in over 18 years, in defiance of every United Nations “climate model,” the warmists have decided to simply prosecute and terrorize their critics with threats of fines, jail time, and even executions. Seriously. Now the threats are becoming reality, with Democrat alarmists and Rockefeller-funded activists leading the way.

This has frightening parallels to the campaign of firing, imprisonment, sentencing to gulags, and even execution waged against Soviet scientists who questioned the pseudo-scientific views of Soviet biologist Trofim Lysenko, who was supported by Joseph Stalin.

With the man-made global-warming theory increasingly becoming the subject of ridicule, Democrat attorneys general in over 15 states are taking it to the next level. They call themselves “AGs United for Clean Power.” Among other schemes, the “law-enforcement officers” are plotting a massive legal attack on climate skeptics, science, free speech, constitutional government, imaginary boogeymen, and of course, common sense. But the plan is almost certain to backfire, big time — even in the remote chance that the prosecutors succeed in duping or strongarming a jury into fining or jailing climate heretics who have helped expose the absurdity of climate alarmism.

Ironically, the infamous “Gore effect” was right on time. In New York, where the attorneys general and discredited activist Al Gore made the announcement about the plan last week, record cold is wreaking havoc. Northern New York even saw sub-zero temperatures this week, shattering daily and April records. That hardly put a chill in the alarmists’ jihad on climate infidels, however.

The bizarre effort to intimidate scientists and criminalize skepticism of the government-backed anthropogenic (man-made) global-warming theory, known as AGW, has already drawn numerous comparisons with the Inquisition. Indeed, the conductor of the alarmist train, former United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change boss Rajendra K. Pachauri, admitted in his resignation letter that his crusade was actually his “religion.” He resigned due to sexual harrasment charges, and is now facing serious charges in his native India.

As mentioned above, the ongoing witch hunt involves state attorneys general in some 16 states, plus discredited climate guru Al “no more Arctic ice cap” Gore and other AGW fanatics with a vested interest in the failed theory. Their radical plan: Intimidate and prosecute those who point out the flaws in their own pet theory — crucial to the globalist agenda — by claiming the skeptics are committing “fraud.” The opposite, is, in fact, closer to the truth, as mountains of evidence and testimony continue to show.

A 2014 Pew survey revealed that just 40 percent of Americans even believed the AGW theory, so it is clear that billions in propaganda and the frequent lectures from President Obama are not helping. Perhaps the new alliance of attorneys general hopes those numbers can be brought up a bit by prosecuting some dissenters and using what prosecutors call the “deterrent” effect. For now, though, despite the fact that virtually all of Big Business and Big Oil are in the tank for AGW alarmism, the climate inquisitors claim to be focused on companies that allegedly promote or allegedly have promoted skepticism of the AGW theory. Eventually, individuals may face the inquisitors, too.

With virtually every major oil company reliably touting and even funding the climate hysteria, the first to be targeted is oil giant ExxonMobil. Prosecutors in New York and California have already started “investigations” into the firm, while attorneys general from Massachusetts and the Virgin Islands announced last week that they would join in. In a statement, the company blasted the claims by the coalition of officials as “preposterous.”

The #ExxonKnew campaign, started by radical activists and self-styled “journalists” funded by the oil and banking Rockefeller dynasty, argues that the company “knew” about “man-made global warming” — alleged warming that according to satellite data has been mysteriously missing for 18 years, potentially even longer, discrediting every single UN climate model.

It was not immediately clear how much taxpayer money was being spent by the attorneys general on the witch hunt.

Perhaps the most unhinged remarks thus far came from Democrat New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Speaking at a press conference in New York City, he suggested jail or worse may be needed to punish those who dissent from what top climate scientists have, apparently properly, ridiculed as the “climate cult” and even “global warming Nazis.” “Financial damages alone may be insufficient,” he warned, comparing global-warming skepticism to “fraud” and noting, correctly, that the First Amendment does not protect fraud. “The bottom line is simple: Climate change is real; it is a threat to all the people we represent…. We have heard the scientists; we know what is being done to the planet.”

He did not give specifics on what sorts of punishment he envisions beyond “financial damages,” but the threat was widely interpreted as going beyond mere “community service” and into the realm of potential prison sentences — or maybe, if that fails, burning the pesky skeptics at the stake, or, as Stalin used to do, sending the scientists to do hard labor in Siberia. “If there are companies, whether they’re utilities, whether they’re fossil fuel companies, committing fraud in an effort to maximize their short-term profits at the expense of the people we represent, we want to find out about it,” he continued, adding that after five months of “invetsigation,” it was “too early” to say what might be found. “We want to expose it and want to pursue them to the fullest extent of the law.”

Standing alongside chief inquisitor Schneiderman was none other than former Vice President Gore, the self-styled inventor of the Internet who repeatedly — and falsely, it turns out — predicted an ice-free Arctic by 2013, 2014, and 2015. Gore, too, vowed to help punish those who reject the “climate cult” he thinks he leads. “We cannot continue to allow the fossil fuel industry or any industry to treat our atmosphere like an open sewer or mislead the public about the impact they have on the health of our people and the health of our planet,” Gore said, demonizing the gas of life, CO2, which every person exhales and every plant needs to live, as if it were sewage. “Every night on the news now it’s like a nature hike through the Book of Revelation.” He called the “investigations” of skeptics “exceptionally important.”

Of course, ExxonMobil, the prime target of the bizarre witchhunt, rejected the Democrats’ strange conspiracy theories. “The allegations are based on the false premise that ExxonMobil reached definitive conclusions about anthropogenic climate change before the world’s experts and before the science itself had matured, and then withheld it from the broader scientific community,” said a spokesperson for the company. “Such a claim is preposterous.”

Despite being wrong on virtually every specific prediction — from global warming and global cooling to climate refugees, hurricanes, melting sea ice, disappearing snow, and more — increasingly shrill warmists have persevered. They have also gone to astonishing lengths in order to support their theory and silence or demonize the opposition. In recent years, climate alarmists have called for those who reject their theory to be jailed, forcibly re-educated, and even executed as dangers to society. The extremism appears to have blown up in their faces, though, with just 40 percent of Americans, as stated above, agreeing with the AGW theory in a Pew poll.

But the alarmists kept going. And this is not the first time in recent memory that climate alarmists in government have threatened prosecutions, Lysenkoism style. It started when Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) called on the Obama administration last year to use the anti-gangster Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) to persecute those who cast doubt on his theory. Later, a group of self-styled “scientists” devouring American tax dollars joined the bandwagon. Ironically, one of the ringleaders behind the effort to prosecute heretics ended up hoisted by his own petard. Self-styled climate scientist Jagadish Shukla, whose phony “Institute of Global Environment and Society” has bilked taxpayers out of over $63 million so far, is now facing congressional investigations for misappropriating public funds. He paid himself and his wife almost $6 million to do alleged “climate research.”

More recently, Obama’s extremist attorney general, Loretta Lynch, said the Department of Justice had “discussed” referring climate heretics to the FBI for prosecution. The FBI presumably laughed, even under the control of Obama’s cronies at the top, as deprivation of rights under color of law is a serious federal crime. Top Obama officials had previously announced a witch hunt to seek out and destroy climate “deniers” among federal scientists.

Of course, when one understands how crucial the ridiculous idea of CO2 as “pollution” that drives warming is to the establishment’s totalitarian agenda, it is hardly a mystery why unhinged officials would resort to totalitarian tactics to silence dissent. But it will not work. In fact, the real fraud is on the climate alarmist side, as numerous scientists, including many who have resigned from the UN IPCC in disgust, have told this magazine and other publications. The “ClimateGate” leak even showed leading alarmist “climate scientists” conspiring to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, silence real scientists, unlawfully destroy data paid for by taxpayers to avoid Freedom of Information Act requests, and more. Data manipulation and brazen lies to show warming where none exists have been exposed repeatedly.

Perhaps once the AGW theory is thrown on the ash heap of quack “science” history, the real fraud in the “climate” debate can be examined more closely.
