Ilhan Omar’s Alias Calls Into Question Citizenship, Eligibility to Serve in Congress
President Donald Trump has called upon U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to begin expulsion proceedings to remove far-left U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota from Congress because Ilhan Omar is not Ilhan Omar.
Her real name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a federal court document shows. Fox News first reported the story.
The latest on the Somali refugee raises more questions about the authenticity of her immigration documents, which she might have falsified by giving the wrong age.
So Omar might get booted not only out of Congress but also out of the country — back to Somalia where she belongs.
Perjury Penalty
The document that cites Omar’s real name is a “motion for an extension of time to respond to pending requests to access sealed search warrant records.” The motion asks the court for more time to respond to requests to unseal the warrant. Federal agents raided Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., on October 12.
The U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, is the top signatory.
“Before the Court are three Applications to unseal ex parte materials and proceedings related to a federal search warrant for the personal residence in the District of Columbia of Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” the motion says.
“That’s not her real name,” a source told Fox about the a/k/a line.
The alias could mean big trouble for the African, who strolls about Congress in a turban and has confessed to being a Somali agent of influence, former federal immigration Judge Nathan Hansen said.
“You think of all the types of documents somebody like her might have filled out,” Hansen told Fox:
There’d be federal student loan and student aid applications, maybe federal housing related applications, maybe public assistance applications, passport applications, passport information and driver’s license information, Real I.D. information [and] voting information.
Among the criminal charges linked to living under an alias is wire fraud, he told Fox, and “a lot of these documents are sworn under penalty of perjury.”
Continued Hansen:
If this is not, like, a real legal name, it’s got some legal backing to it that every type of government form she’s filled out in her entire existence might be called into question.
Omar’s office replied to Fox as expected. “This is completely false,” a spokesman said. “Ilhan Omar is her real name.”
The spokesman also pointed to Omar’s “interview” on MS NOW, during which she denied that she married her brother. “Rep. Omar has repeatedly and unequivocally denied this baseless, disgusting conspiracy theory.”
Trump and Fine
Trump tore in to Omar on Truth Social.
“It was just revealed that Ilhan Omar’s name is not Ilhan Omar, the one she used to get elected and sworn into Congress, but rather, it’s an entirely different name, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, and that her last name is, incredibly, also the exact name of her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the person they said she married and had children with,” Trump wrote:
When asked whether or not she married her brother, she said, “Not to my knowledge.” In other words, she somehow didn’t know? Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress. Please inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson, that the Dumocrat Party has just conceded her seat. Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, her real name, has openly admitted to FRAUD, and she will not be legally allowed to be a Member of this August Body from this point forth.
“@Ilhan Elmi is not a real citizen of this country,” GOP Representative Randy Fine of Florida wrote on X:
She lied her way into America.
If the DOJ confirms what we already know, she has no place in Congress.
I will demand her expulsion immediately.
Age on Immigration Papers, Marriage History
One aspect of the case against Omar is the age recorded on her immigration papers, as CNN’s Jake Tapper explained on his program The Lead.
“A law enforcement source in Minnesota tells me that there are legitimate reasons to investigate the circumstances around Omar’s immigration to the U.S. and possible conspiracy to hide it since, as there were when the probe began during the Biden administration,” Tapper said.
Speaking with former U.S. attorney Elie Honig, Tapper noted that Omar’s trouble might stem from lying about her age in immigration paperwork by claiming, when she was 18 or older, that she was 17 and still a minor. That would make it “easier to become a citizen because her father from Somalia was a naturalized citizen.”
Replied Honig:
Most federal crimes in the immigration area will have a maximum of a five-year statute of limitations. We’re obviously well beyond that from 2000, so there could be a couple of possibilities. One, some offenses say that if a person gets into the country or gets status by making false statements, and then remains in the country, that will extend … the statute of limitations. Two, it could be that more recent paperwork was submitted — perhaps a reapplication or renewal, could be somebody relating to Representative Omar, somebody around her. And then three, if prosecutors have evidence that within the last five years, there’s been some evidence of obstruction, some effort to get stories straight, to destroy documents, to persuade potential witnesses to say a certain thing, then those obstruction charges, if they happened within the last five years, would also be within the statute of limitations.
Omar’s relatives, including her sister, received subpoenas as part of the probe.
Omar’s marital history is quite complicated because it involves multiple marriages and multiple divorces. It also involves her affair with a married political consultant, Tim Mynett. After Mynett jilted his wife, he married Omar.
Multiple credible accounts show that one of Omar’s previous marriages was to her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009. They divorced in 2017.
Trump discussed that marriage in December. “We oughtta get her the hell out!” he said. “She married her brother in order to get in!”
