Department of Homeland Security information reveals that Hillary Clinton could permanently resettle to America over half a million Muslim migrants during the first term of her presidency if elected, Breitbart News reports. The data is based on statements that Clinton has made throughout her campaign.
During a September 20 appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation, Clinton was asked to comment on President Obama’s plans to increase the number of refugees permitted into the United States to 10,000, and if she believed that was enough. She responded, “Look, we’re facing the worst refugee crisis since the end of World War II, and I think the United States has to do more, and I would like to see us move from what is a good start with 10,000 to 65,000 and begin immediately to put into place the mechanisms for vetting the people that we would take in.”
According to an analysis by the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, 65,000 is in fact just the tip of the iceberg. The analysis reads:
Assuming Clinton’s desire to bring in 65,000 Syrian refugees is in addition to the Obama Administration’s current goal of admitting 10,000 this fiscal year (out of 85,000 total refugees), that would amount to an increase of 55,000 refugees. 55,000 on top of 85,000 totals 140,000 refugees. The Obama Administration’s target for FY 2017 is actually 100,000 refugees, meaning that adding 55,000 refugees to that would result in 155,000 refugees each year. Due to statutory flaws in our Refugee Admissions Program, the number could be as high as Hillary Clinton desires. Assuming her goal is to admit 155,000 refugees each year during a hypothetical first term in office, a Clinton Administration would admit at least 620,000 refugees in just four years — a population roughly the size of Baltimore.
To put that figure into perspective, the United States has permanently resettled 1.5 million Muslim migrants on green cards over 12 years, between 2001 and 2013.
The Heritage Foundation has estimated that the cost to bring in 10,000 refugees is $6.5 billion, which includes costs at the federal, state, and local levels. Using that estimate as a baseline to calculate the cost of bringing in 155,000 in one year reveals that the total lifetime cost to the taxpayers would be over $1 billion. If those same levels were maintained over the cost of a four-year term, the total cost to taxpayers would be over $400 billion.
What’s more troublesome is these estimates are highly conservative, according to the analysis, because they fail to take into consideration those who are granted asylum status in the United States, which amounts to approximately 25,000 annually, and they do not consider the fact that refugees often bring additional family members into the United States after being admitted.
Clinton has made no qualms about her immigration stance. During her appearance at the 2016 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Convention, she promised to achieve comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship within her first 100 days of office. She also promised to protect millions of illegal immigrants from deportation under President Obama’s Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents.
But Clinton’s stance on refugees from the Middle East is extremely troubling, particularly in the wake of the recent acts of terror by radical Muslims seen throughout the United States and across the world.
Donald Trump, the likely Republican presidential contender, has criticized Clinton’s stance on immigration, particularly from the Middle East, and has voiced concerns that terrorists can infiltrate the United States by posing as refugees — something for which ISIS has already taken credit.
Earlier this year, the Washington Post reported on how ISIS has been able to use the European migrant crisis to send terrorist operatives into Europe. It was how ISIS was able to execute the November terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.
“We have sent many operatives to Europe with the refugees,” an Islamic State commander said in an interview with the Post over an encrypted data service. “Some of our brothers have fulfilled their mission, but others are still waiting to be activated.”
Following the terrorist attack in Orlando, Florida, Trump reiterated concerns over Clinton’s Middle Eastern immigration policy, claiming that if elected president, Clinton would place Americans in significant danger:
Clinton wants to allow Radical Islamic terrorists to pour into our country — they enslave women, and murder gays. I don’t want them in our country. Immigration is a privilege, and we should not let anyone into this country who doesn’t support our communities — all of our communities.… The burden is on Hillary Clinton to tell us why she believes immigration from these dangerous countries should be increased without any effective system to screen who we are bringing in. The burden is on Hillary Clinton to tell us why we should admit anyone into our country who supports violence of any kind against gay and lesbian Americans. The burden is also on Hillary Clinton to tell us how she will pay for it. Her plan will cost Americans hundreds of billions of dollars long-term. Wouldn’t this money be better spent on rebuilding America for our current population, including the many poor people already living here?
Based on the data, it seems fair to say that American taxpayers will not only be footing additional costs but could potentially be much less secure inside their own country’s borders under a Clinton administration.
