UN on Brink of Financial Collapse, Says UN Chief
Could 2026 be the year the United Nations finally ceases to exist?
According to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the globalist organization is on the brink of “imminent financial collapse.” He said this in a letter he sent this week to 193 UN ambassadors, according to reports.
Financial Collapse?
“The crisis is deepening, threatening programme delivery and risking financial collapse,” Guterres wrote in the letter, dated January 28, “and the situation will deteriorate further in the near future.”
The major reason for the UN’s woes is that member states haven’t paid their dues. At the top of the list is the United States, which reportedly owes $2.2 billion in overdue and current assessments for the UN’s regular operating budget and another $1.8 billion for the UN “peacekeeping” operations budget. While refusing to exit the globalist entity completely, President Donald Trump’s administration has caused it significant harm, not only by withholding dues but by pulling out of several UN-tied organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO, and many others.
“We have managed difficult periods of unpaid assessed contributions before,” Guterres said in his letter. “But today’s situation is categorically different. … The current trajectory is untenable.”
The UN chief said the organization ended 2025 with a record $1.5 billion in unpaid dues, double the figure at the end of 2024. The UN’s dilemma is worsened by a budget rule that forces it to give back unspent money. “We are suffering a double blow: on one side, unpaid contributions; and on the other side, an obligation to return funds that were never received in the first place,” Guterres wrote. “In other words, we are trapped in a Kafkaesque cycle; expected to give back cash that does not exist.”
