Cotton and Crenshaw Introduce Bills to Let Americans Sue China for Virus Losses

Two conservative legislators have introduced bills that permit Americans to sue China for the devastating effects of the deadly Chinese virus that, at this writing, has infected more than 650,000 Americans and killed almost 35,000.

The bill would permit Americans to get past the sovereign immunity that protects foreign countries from lawsuits and hold the communists accountable for virus-related losses, not least the death of loved ones.

The bill is meant to force China’s hand. Either pay the United States for the damage the virus caused because the Chinese government lied about it, or face millions of taxpayer lawsuits.

China’s Lies
The two Republicans who sponsored the bill, Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Representative Dan Crenshaw of Texas, offer a long indictment of the Chinese Reds that details their coverup of the pathogen as it broke free of Wuhan, where, U.S. officials think, it sprang loose from a virus lab.

The “Holding the Chinese Communist Party Accountable for Infecting Americans Act of 2020” says China’s regime hid the truth and directly caused the now global pandemic that has infected more than two million and killed more than 145,000.

“The Communist Party of China covered up the existence and downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID–19), at least as early as December 2019,” the first item says.

The Chinese also “engaged in a campaign to silence and delegitimize doctors, including Dr. Li Wenliang, who were warning their colleagues and others about COVID–19.”

As well:

• “Chinese government officials ordered the destruction of laboratory samples and research regarding COVID–19 in January 2020….”

• “have detained or otherwise silenced researchers, journalists, and citizens who attempted to share information that could have proven unflattering to the response of the Chinese Government to the COVID–19 outbreak.”

• “have expelled United States journalists who were covering the COVID–19 outbreak in China.”

• “have attempted to censor or destroy academic research into COVID–19 and its origins that might disagree with the official positions of the Chinese Government.”

One final point is that “intentionally underreported or altered official numbers of COVID–19 infections and deaths in China” led to “flawed analyses that severely underestimated the nature and seriousness” of the disease.

That fact is important, the bill says, because “academic studies have shown that, had appropriate interventions occurred to stop the spread COVID–19 even just weeks earlier, the spread of COVID–19 would have been severely curtailed.”

“By silencing doctors and journalists who tried to warn the world about the coronavirus, the Chinese Communist Party allowed the virus to spread quickly around the globe,” Cotton said in a prepared statement. “Their decision to cover up the virus led to thousands of needless deaths and untold economic harm. It’s only appropriate that we hold the Chinese government accountable for the damage it has caused.”

Added former Navy SEAL Crenshaw:

We need to hold the Chinese government accountable for their malicious lies and coverup that allowed the coronavirus to spread across the world. The communist regime expelled journalists, silenced whistleblowers, and withheld vital information that delayed the global response to the pandemic. Simply put: their actions cost American lives and livelihoods. This bill will help ensure China’s actions are not without consequences.

Aside from watching loved ones die, Americans lost jobs and watched helplessly as retirement stock portfolios lost 20 to 30 percent of their value. More than 22 million Americans, as The New American reported yesterday, have filed unemployment claims since March 1.

Future taxpayers are now saddled with more than $2 trillion in debt in virus-relief legislation.

Chinese Lies
Citing Fox News and the Washington Post, TNA also reported that U.S. officials believe an employee at the Wuhan Institute of Virology — where undertrained technicians monkeyed around with the bat-borne pathogen — inadvertently loosed it upon the city. Fox also disclosed that U.S and Canadian taxpayer subsidized the virology lab.

But Chinese communist officials lied about the virus from the beginning of the pandemic. They blamed the outbreak on the city’s wet markets, which sell exotic animals and pets for human consumption.

After keeping the outbreak secret for almost a week while revelers and travelers packed Wuhan for the Lunar New Year, they then low-balled infection and fatality numbers.

Today, as TNA reported, the Chinese communists finally revised their coronavirus numbers, although anecdotal evidence suggests they are lying once again.
