William F. Jasper, Senior Editor of The New American magazine, exposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership’s (TPP) dangers to our national sovereignty, especially in light of our experience with NAFTA. President Obama’s Secretary of State John Kerry not only is a key supporter of the TPP, but was also a supporter of NAFTA when he was in the Senate in the early 1990s. Sen. Kerry ignored the warnings that NAFTA’s Chapter 11 would establish supranational courts that would be used to undermine our sovereignty and override our Constitution, as well as our local, state, and federal laws. In 2002, when a NAFTA court overruled a U.S. court, Senator Kerry feigned amazement. Many of Kerry’s pro-NAFTA colleagues similarly ignored and ridiculed our warnings on NAFTA, and, likewise, pretended astonishment when the consequences we predicted occurred. Now Kerry and company are now trying to repeat their malfeasance with the TPP.
